Aprons and Bags

Well, the kids are back in school:(  I was not ready for the school schedule, but I am adjusting.  It's not the getting up part that I don't like - I was up by 5:00 a.m. this summer with the puppies.  It is just the busy homework after school stuff schedule I dislike.  I miss being able to play outside until dark too!
Anyway, here are a few things I have worked on:  I did a huge stack of aprons for the workers at my church's consignment sale.  They were easy to do since they are flat, just a little long to stitch out.

Here is a bag I did for a friend.  She is going to use it as a gym bag.  I was hoping the orange would pop out, but it didn't.  It does look better up close.

bags and a pencil roll

I have been on a major clean out of my sewing stuff this week. I admit I am a bit OCD about cleaning and cleaning out. My kids cringe every time I say it is time to clean out their closets and drawers to see what still fits. While I like things neat and organized, I do let some areas go. For example the desk that my embroidery machine is on, is actually a computer table. I love it because it has a fold down compartment with a tray that slides out. (This is where the keyboard would go). I keep all of my design sheets in binders. The binder fits nicely on the slide out tray. Underneath, I keep sheets of fabric that I use to stitch out designs for practice, rolls of stabilizer, thread etc.. Anyway, today I took everything out and cleaned in the back, where it was really pretty dusty. I also cleaned my hoops. Using the Sulky spray they really get gunky!
I went through all of my shirts and stuff and found this old (actually new, but never used) lab coat. I put James' teacher name on it for her to wear next week on Science Day.
Earlier this week, I did these bags for Mrs. Price. They were old bags she had that said "Traveling Pals" on them. She had me add the class information on one side and "Grab and Go" on the other. Whenever the class leaves their room they have to take a "Grab and Go" bag. It has student information in it, band aids etc. I did 5 of these.
I also worked on a fun little project. I have been wanting to try a crayon roll for a long time. In fact I bought a pattern/design a while back and never tried it. When I finally did, it didn't work. So I bought another design, but this time I got a larger one for pencils. And it was soooo easy!
You use felt so when you trim the edges, it still looks great! I want to try it with fabric and just zig zag the edges so they won't ravel and see how it works. I bought the printed felt at Michael's. On one I used ribbon that I also bought at Michael's for 50 cents. On the other one I used a black rope so it wouldn't look too girly for James. It still looks a little girly, which I why I am going to try it with some camo fabric.

I have another fun project I'm working on and hopefully will post it soon!
